Know Your Risk This Hurricane Season

Every year, residents should understand whether they live in an evacuation zone, a low-lying or flood-prone area, a mobile home, or an unsafe structure. These locations are more likely to be evacuated during a hurricane. Knowing your risk ahead of time helps you prepare and better understand evacuation orders issued by local officials.

Know Your Home

This year, it’s especially important to understand your home’s ability to withstand hurricane conditions. If your area is not under an evacuation order and your home is not located in an evacuation zone, you may choose to shelter in place. If you do, make sure your home is well-prepared for strong winds and heavy rainfall, and that you have the supplies and plans needed to stay safe indoors.
